Every brand has an origin story. Ours just happened to start with a line down the street.

Where It All Began

Picture this: July 2020. Sydney's Northern Beaches is in full lockdown mode. Most hospitality venues? Ghost towns. But one small Mexican restaurant in Narrabeen? Police were managing crowd control.

They weren't there for tacos. They were there for margaritas.

With dine-in banned, we pivoted to margaritas-to-go, a lifeline for our regulars who just wanted a taste of normalcy. What we didn't expect was the absolute frenzy that followed. Instagram stories lit up. Group chats went wild. Friends told friends who told their friends. Suddenly, we weren't just serving drinks, we were creating a movement.

And here's the thing: we never set out to build a drinks brand. But when you accidentally create something people line up around the block for, you pay attention.

Seeing the Gap (and the Opportunity)

As the queues grew longer, something became crystal clear: people were starving for quality. They didn't want another sugar-bomb RTD that tastes like regret the next morning. They wanted what they'd order at a proper cocktail bar, balance, depth, that perfect kick of premium tequila.

We looked at the RTD landscape and saw the same story everywhere: overly sweet, artificially flavoured drinks that bore zero resemblance to an actual margarita. It was like someone had never tasted the real thing.

That's when MEXINK stopped being an idea and became a mission: put a proper, bartender-quality margarita into a can. No shortcuts. No dumbing it down. Just the real deal, portable.

From Restaurant to Retail

By September 2021, we made it official. MEXINK hit bottle shops and venues, and the response was immediate. Within four months, we were pouring in over 40 locations, both cans flying off shelves and kegs flowing at some of Sydney's most iconic spots.

At 13% ABV in a 250ml can, we weren't playing it safe. We were making a statement: premium RTDs don't have to be watered-down or weak. They should taste like they came from behind a bar, because ours actually did.

Retailers got it instantly. It wasn't just the sleek cans catching eyes; it was the customers coming back, again and again, telling their mates to grab a four-pack.

Because once you taste it, you get it.

The Flavours That Started It All

We launched with four flavours, each one designed to deliver that perfect margarita moment:

Mexi-Shaken Classic Margarita – the OG, done right
Coco-ho Coconut Margarita – tropical without being tacky
Jalapeño Spicy Margarita – heat that doesn't hurt
Passion Passionfruit Margarita – punchy, fresh, unforgettable

Every flavour was obsessively balanced—fresh, bold, strong enough to stand on its own whether you pour it over ice, sip it straight from the can, or serve it up like you're hosting the party of the year.

A Shift in How We Drink

Here's what was happening when we launched: Australians weren't necessarily drinking more; they were drinking better.

The days of smashing cheap beers and sugary pre-mixes were fading. People wanted quality. They wanted to know what was in their drink. They wanted something that tasted as good at a backyard BBQ as it did at a rooftop bar.

Premium RTDs weren't just a trend—they were a cultural shift. And tequila? It was having a full-blown renaissance.

MEXINK landed right in the sweet spot: convenience that doesn't compromise. Quality you can crack open anywhere.


So… Where Is MEXINK Going?

Everything we've done comes back to one philosophy: liquid on lips.

Getting more people to experience what a canned margarita should taste like, that's the mission. We're expanding into more venues, more retail spaces, more moments. We're pushing our on-tap presence harder. And we're not done innovating on flavour.

MEXINK was born from an unexpected moment, but what comes next? That's intentional. Strategic. Relentless.
